Fricassée!
It turns out that Annecy is really awesome. It is like Lyon, but much smaller and prettier and surrounded by mountains. I ate a lot of good food—much of which I’ve already posted pictures of—saw a lot of pretty scenery, and went on a long bike ride on Saturday.
Lake Annecy is huge, and very very clean. The water is always very deep blue and you can almost always see straight...
Where have I been?
Here, in Lyon, I suppose. I don’t even really know myself. Suddenly, I’ve turned in and gotten back two tests, finished a semester’s worth of French class, and done my laundry twice. How did that all happen so fast? I don’t know. I’m sorry I haven’t updated my blog in forever.
A lot has happened besides class, though. Megan and her cousin Charlotte were...

Thank You Pitchfork
I’ve been runninng in the mornings now. It sucks because the hotel is on a hill and I go down it, run along the river and then have to run up the hill as the last thing. It is not a small hill. It is larger than most ski hills in Wisconsin, for you midwesterners. For you Virginians, it is maybe as big or slightly smaller than Observatory Hill.
Last night Collin and I made pork with...
I'm Full
I just had a cheese tasting.
Thursday night we saw Ariel Pink, (lo-fi rock from L.A) in this weird awesome music venue where we met a bunch of French people. We started a crazy dance party with the singer that got really sweaty really quick. Then last night we somehow ended up at a French biker bar and then this place where these guys were playing reggae and we ended up dancing again, which was...
Mercredi
I had my third day of class today. Two days a week we have to walk to the other side of the city for class at the IEP, Institute d’Etudes Politique, which is a sister school with UVa whose space we are using. It is a long walk, it probably takes about thirty to forty five minutes. Katie and I tried to do it in twenty five minutes this morning and ended up being fifteen minutes late for...
There is too much to say
…about my first two days here. I have done one million things and met a million people. Everyone is really nice, friendly, and just as bad at French as I am.
Yesterday I went to an open air market, wandered around the city, and then we went to dinner as a group. It was awesome food and speaking in French the entire time was interesting. I think I’m beginning to like red wine.

I'm Here...
…in Lyon, in a dark hotel room. My roomate is sleeping. It is 11 p.m. here, 4 p.m. at home.
Airtravel sucks. Thunderstorms in Chicago meant leaving an hour late and missing my connection at London/Heathrow. So I sat in the terminal from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. London time. I read some Kurt Vonnegut. That was nice.
The whole mess was also made better by the fact that British Airways is...
