L'Enfant Lyonnais

Thank You Pitchfork

I’ve been runninng in the mornings now.  It sucks because the hotel is on a hill and I go down it, run along the river and then have to run up the hill as the last thing.  It is not a small hill.  It is larger than most ski hills in Wisconsin, for you midwesterners.  For you Virginians, it is maybe as big or slightly smaller than Observatory Hill.

Last night Collin and I made pork with onions and mushrooms sauteed in red wine.  It was delicious. The mushrooms really soaked up the flavor. I’ll put up a picture of the stuff.  I’ve also decided to take a picture of everything I eat from now on.

Before dinner Collin and Katie and I went down by the Rhone to read but we just ended up talking.  The light was really good so I also ended up taking some pictures, which are both above and below.

It is hot here today, and it is supposed to be hot all week.  We don’t have air conditioning.  This might be un petit problem.

I think we will be going to Switzerland this weekend. I need to order my train pass.  It will be about 300 Euro for a pass to travel all the weekends I’m here, which is a pretty good deal.  I think we’ll also go to Germany (Munich or Berlin?), Paris, and maybe southen France, (Marseille or Nice) at some point.

Today was a quiet day.  We had class, then went and explored the East side of the Rhone by the hotel, which I hadn’t seen yet.  Then we stopped at the grocery store and picked up some food.

Collin and I went to the TCL building today to get unlimited Metro cards for July.  The ladies behind the counter laughed when I said, “Je suis une etudiante,” accidentally, which would mean I was a female student.

They also have a really cool public bike system here which I have yet to figure out because I think you need a French bank account to make a deposit.

The sun goes down late here.  It is 6:30pm and it is still quite bright. It will be light out until about 9:30 or 10.  I like that, but it makes it seem way earlier than it actually is.

In other news, Wilco the album comes out tomorrow.  Pitchfork gave it a 7.3, which is higher than I expected.  I quote, “…this is not the music of men trying to be cool.” What would we do without their invaluble input?
